Barrel Packaging of Soft Wire at up to 600 m/min, with Non-stop Barrel Changing — packages 1–6 mm soft wire (automotive wire, welding wire, electronic wire) into barrels with plum-shaped knot-free winding.

Barrel Type Wire Winding Machine

Instead of winding onto a spool, the XL-BW-14 deposits wire into a barrel in a plum-blossom pattern. The traversing system guides the wire so that successive layers cross at an angle, which prevents knotting when the wire is later drawn out for further processing or use.

Working sequence and features:

  • Wire from the production line enters the winding machine at up to 600 m/min, guided by disk-driven ball screw traversing.

  • The take-up unit (4 kW motor) lays the wire into the barrel in the plum-shaped pattern, so the wire pays out without knots.

  • A vibration motor (3 kW) settles the wire in the barrel, increasing fill and package density.

  • A conveyor motor (0.18 kW) moves barrels through the packaging position, allowing barrel changes without stopping the line.

The machine is controlled by PLC with touch screen, and pay-off mode is selectable between active and passive.

Applications

PLC and touch screen operation, with selectable active or passive pay-off and selectable encoder output.

Integrated control

05

Line and take-up speeds up to 600 m/min with a 4 kW take-up drive.

High throughput

04

The 3 kW vibration motor settles the wire in the barrel, increasing package density compared with free-fall deposition.

Higher barrel fill

03

The crossing layer pattern prevents knotting, so wire pays out cleanly in downstream processing.

Knot-free plum-shaped winding

02

The conveyor system moves barrels through the packaging position without stopping the line, supporting continuous production.

Non-stop barrel changing

01

Five characteristics based on the real barrel packaging design.

Why Choose the XL-BW-14

Send your material and production requirements — our engineering team will respond with a suitable configuration.

Need a winding solution for your production line?

  • The machine is specified for 1–6 mm soft wire, including automotive wire, welding wire and electronic wire. The catalog also lists various soft and hard wires and shaped wires within this diameter range. For materials outside 1–6 mm, our spool-based oscillate recoilers covering up to 14 mm wire may be the better fit.

  • Maximum line speed and maximum take-up speed are both 600 m/min. Traversing accuracy is ±0.5 mm, using the same disk-driven ball screw traversing principle as the rest of the Xinglian winding program.

  • Barrels of 500 mm outside diameter, 300 mm inside diameter and 500–700 mm height. If your packaging uses a different barrel format, confirm dimensions with our sales team before ordering.

  • Plum-shaped winding lays the wire into the barrel in a crossing, plum-blossom pattern rather than in aligned coils. This prevents the wire from knotting when it is later pulled out of the barrel, which matters for downstream wire drawing, cutting or feeding operations.

  • Yes. Non-stop barrel changing is a specified feature of the XL-BW-14. A 0.18 kW conveyor motor moves barrels through the packaging position while the line keeps running, which supports continuous production at high line speeds.

  • A 3 kW vibration motor settles the wire as it is deposited in the barrel. This compacts the wire package and increases the amount of wire per barrel compared with loose deposition, improving packaging efficiency.

  • The take-up drive is a 4 kW motor, supported by the 3 kW vibration motor and the 0.18 kW conveyor motor. Operation is through a PLC with touch screen, and the pay-off mode can be selected between active and passive.

  • Barrel packaging on the XL-BW-14 suits 1–6 mm soft wire that is later paid out from the barrel, such as automotive, welding and electronic wire. If your product must be wound on spools — for example larger wire up to 14 mm, or strip — the oscillate recoiler series offers spools from 300 mm inside diameter up to PN800 mm.

  • Yes. The machine pairs with the wire tractor series and pay-off equipment for extrusion and rewinding lines, and pay-off mode and encoder output (differential or open-collector) are selectable to match your line control. Share your line interface for confirmation.
